Old Iron 0 #1 Posted January 24, 2009 A good friend of mine who has 2 Wheel Horeses refered me to the guy he goes to. I was out with the wife and half way there, so we made the trip. 1hr and 15 minutes from the house. I needed a new plug wire and was excited to get the chance to browse. I was told they had "everything". When I walked in there was nothing but a huge mess in the rather small customer area, so I had to ask for the wire and he left through a door that lead to a HUGE wharehouse! I couldn't browse but at least this guy has anything I'll ever need for my 1057. Now I ask you, is 1 plug wire, original Kohler part, worth $17 and change!!?? I paid for it, but I'm hoping this isn't what's to come for any part I may need. I was thinking that the Wheel Horse would be cheaper than my Fords when it came time for parts. Did I get rooked? Kelly 1,033 #2 Posted January 24, 2009 I make my own plug wires from universal kits for cars, and buy extra ends when needed, I'm guessing they cost me about $2 to make, so you be the judge
jerrell 1 #3 Posted January 24, 2009  John you can spend a lot of money on those brand name parts, but like kelly pointed out you can save a lot by using or making your own parts sometines, i needed a lift cable for the c-175 and didn't want to wait for shipping and did't like the price so i made one for less than 5.00, and made it better by using a little stiffer cable. there are some people on here that has to have brand name parts and others that can use the same parts but made by another co. at half the price, it all depends on you and your wallet. but i think you got stiffed on the plug wire,
Old Iron 0 #4 Posted January 24, 2009 I should have said forget it, but I had already made the long trip. I went to the little local guy today and I think I'll be going back more than once. We talked old tractors for at least 20 minutes. He was a real nice guy who didn't mind chit-chat and made me feel comfortable. I'll be going back for my carb rebuild kit soon.... linen beige 15 #7 Posted January 24, 2009 His prices might explain why he has a warehouse full of parts. A good percentage of the hardware items used on these 'Horses were standard items. Some of the NLA items are still widely available, just not through Toro.
