@Blasterdad I learned this trick with shock placement on a vehicle a long time ago.  Full compression of suspension and shock, make an arc.  Full extension of suspension and shock, make an intersecting arc.  That is where ideal shock mount placement is.  Well, I did the same here.

I’m not sure if I want to cut apart the gussets on the inside of the brackets or not, so I’ll do the same with cardboard and the top side to see if there is any good placement with the existing bucket holes.

This is the same method I used for the rear shocks on my buggy.

It looks like I’ll have some welds to cut.  It just doesn’t make sense to have the cylinder so far away from the frame to find that intersection.

It looks like my guess was pretty close, about 2". I didn't see that gusset behind it, that stinks.

Neat trick too, I do something similar measuring heel heights for rafters building houses. :thumbs:

A couple of cutoff wheels & good to go, it wants to be where it wants to be.

The sparks will keep your dinner warm too if there's any left, Lol...

Sawzall with a good carbide blade is my best friend on cuts like that!  :handgestures-thumbupright:  We had deer and pig (bacon wrapped venison burger).  No leftovers!

One cut made.  I believe I can bend the gusset up and out of the way, then re-weld it.

Excellent tip and excellent explaination in the video.

 

Keep in mind though that when you move the pivot point on the bucket 'inward' you get more movement but less 'break out' or 'scooping' power.

Yeah, I thought about that too Mark.  Somewhere I have to find a sweet spot.  Hopefully I’ll have enough juice from the 20 hp engine and overkill pump and valve to help overcome the change!

I have a nice sand pile behind the barn that’ll be ready for my testing.  I need to tube my tires or replace the fronts with some ribs too before too long.  I’m just waiting for the ability to lift the nose off the ground!

You might be able to see, I’ve got 3 scribed lines.  The true intersection, it’s pretty tight to make it work still.  3/8” out, I could likely bring in a bushing.  1/2” out, it’ll clear just fine.  
 

My last loader, powered by an old pump, old valve, and half the HP, could invert the bucket.  This one is less than perpendicular from the ground.  My butt dyno says this’ll be fine (at the 1/2” mark).

And surprisingly I can still retain enough to teach my kids a thing or two!  Most of my HS math teachers allowed me to work ahead on my own, then catch a few 😴’s in the back of the class so long as I didn’t cause any ruckus.

I was fascinated by math as well, but Geometry and Trigonometry really got me excited.
