Amcwheel85 2,058 #1 Posted March 22, 2017 I'm just curious as I have not had a big hp hydro horse until the other day when I picked up a 520H that is awaiting a rebuild... so my question is how fast are they? Again I'm curious because when I get this restored it's gonna be my big hot rod to cruise around on and I'm just a big kid! Lol
WHX?? 46,797 #2 Posted March 22, 2017 Not any more fast than any other horse Amc...6 mph on the flat tops. Still a nice "caddy" to run around at shows on! BTW a rig for tub rides for the kids too!

Ed Kennell 35,800 #7 Posted March 22, 2017 Put a foot feed on the 520 hydro and use it as a worker....you'll luv it. Switch a couple pulleys on one of those gear drive tractors if you wanna go fast.

WHX?? 46,797 #10 Posted March 22, 2017 That's part of Ed's Darth Vader costume he wore for last Halloween. Now it doubles as a full face racing helmet. I would bet he's got it fitted with one of these for those NHRA sanctioned events.
bmsgaffer 2,043 #11 Posted March 22, 2017 The 520HC or the older C1x5 series had faster hydro transmissions with about 7 mph top speed (this was done inside the transmission with different pinions and mating gears). Liability (and torque i suppose) capped all the hydros out at about 5.6 or thereabouts after 1991. In 1998 they were bumped back up to 7.5 in high range with the XI models. If you really wanted any more than that go bigger tires (dont change pulleys on a hydro) and you can squeak out a few more mph if you are brave enough.

Just Kidding what is that? The black one is a crash helmet. The OD one is Airborn Army parachute. Either one will rearrange your doo. I may also install a pilot ejector which may give you a spikey.
