classicdmax 190 #1 Posted February 26, 2017 I'm replacing ignition cool today for the hell of it. Had to take it off anyways to get at the carb for maintenance. Stamped on the new coil indicates "do not use with external resistor". can anyone please advise me how to move forward? Isn't the resistor necessary for points type ignitions? thanks
rmaynard 14,909 #2 Posted February 26, 2017 Coils for that engine have an internal resistor. No need for an external one. The correct coil is a Kohler 41 519 21-S or equivilent.
classicdmax 190 #3 Posted February 26, 2017 So the external resistor currently in place was prob used due to type of coil used by prior owner?
Ed Kennell 35,848 #4 Posted February 26, 2017 Are you confusing the condenser with an external resistor?
classicdmax 190 #5 Posted February 26, 2017 Ah, yes. Apologies. so I should be able to install without issues then?
Ed Kennell 35,848 #6 Posted February 26, 2017 Yes, if you have the correct coil as Bob listed. Connect ignition switch to + coil post and points and condenser to -coil post.
