C-Series14 15 #1 Posted January 18, 2008 I don't know if this is the right place but I feel like a story about an attachment I found many years ago. The story is that a roofing company here in Ohio bought a new 1979 WH C-141 8-Speed with a new WH FEL on it to use for their roofing business. It is the roof that has the tar and gravel type treatment. The tractor was used on the roof to haul the gravel. Now this is what I was told, maybe someone will know if this would be true or not. Anyways, the tractor was LEFT ON THE ROOF when the job was done. Later, it was spotted by someone who either took it to a dealer and sold it or was found by the dealer, I can't remember. I had posted on a WH site that I was looking for a FEL. A couple months later, while at the WH Show in Pa., a gentleman approached me and ask if I was still interested in a FEL. It turns out, I had been talking with this guy thru emails about this FEL but couldn't get him to sell it. I ended up driving to NE Ohio and checked it out. It was a mess! Rusted, covered in tar, and ugly!!! The tractor was worse. I ended up buying the FEL and hauled it home. I replaced the hoses, sandblasted it, made new metal lines, and installed it on the C-161 8-Speed and it worked the first time. It has not broke since! I bet I have moved well over 30 tons of gravel, several tons of dirt, mulch, carried everything from dog boxes to Lawn Rangers, dug trees out, moved snow, and have a set of forks for it. Well, I am done, fingers are bleeding... Attached Image (Click thumbnail to expand)
C-Series14 15 #2 Posted January 18, 2008 Here it is in the barn, not as much tar on it as the tractor had!!! Attached Image
combatmp29r 27 #3 Posted January 18, 2008 Thats a pretty nice looking vertical shaft there Mike. Oh wait theres another tractor there too huh? Thats quite a story on the FEL. Its amazing sometimes what companies do. My grandfather worked for a coal company that buried half their equipment when they would finish strip mioning an area. Said it was cheaper to buy new than tear it down and move it. :D
Rollerman 290 #4 Posted January 18, 2008 Nice story & pics Mike...I didn't know the made a front Lawn ranger attachment for a C series? Seems weird a company would just leave it on a roof...unless they were planing on getting more use out of it in the future? Either way glad you saved it & it looks great. It's an Ark right? High on my list of wants. :P
C-Series14 15 #5 Posted January 18, 2008 ARK 550, had to replace the pump pulley several years ago and found the exact replacement at Grainger! The LR attachment is a rare one, you can mow on the other side of the fence with it! Joel...that be the Lawn Ranger I told you about.
Rollerman 290 #6 Posted January 18, 2008 Hmm & I thought you put it down to make your trator a Z turn? :D
combatmp29r 27 #7 Posted January 18, 2008 Hmmm forgot you had fork Mike. Maybe I don't need the ramps to come down after all. Fiberglass actually looks solid.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,602 #8 Posted January 18, 2008 Nice story, Mike. So what happen to the C-141?
kj4kicks 154 #9 Posted January 18, 2008 Looks good Mike. The 1979 FEL that I put on my 520 came on a '76 C-160. Here's what it looked like then: I'd love to build a set of forks for mine. Can you post some pics, and dimensions? Thanks, Eldon.
C-Series14 15 #10 Posted January 19, 2008 Terry...no idea on the C-141. i think the guy was going to restore it. I have lost touch with him. Eldon, let me take some pics. The forks have their own frame that pins into the loader arms. The forks slide in and out on rails. The setup is heavy and could be made lighter. It works great. WheelHorse_of_course 99 #11 Posted January 19, 2008 Mike,, thank's for an interesting story and good pics :D
C-Series14 15 #12 Posted January 19, 2008 Found a pic of the forks. I would get new ones but the Loader is buried in the back and it is like 10 degrees out here. Attached Image
kj4kicks 154 #13 Posted January 19, 2008 Mike.... BRRRRRR !! Thanks for the pic. That'll give me an idea of how it hooks up. That project is about 4th on the list anyhow, so it'll be awhile.
C-Series14 15 #14 Posted January 19, 2008 The fork frame is basically just like the rear section of the bucket. Just imagine the bucket mounted, cut off the front of the bucket, and make some forks out of "C" channel steel in an "L" shape. Mine slide inboard and outboard which comes in handy sometimes but not needed. Mine is heavy and what I think would be a neat idea is to make a frame that attaches to the loader arms that both a bucket and forks could be quick attached to. I thought of having a wider bucket made for snow and mulch that would use the cross rods that my forks slide on to hold the new bucket. Just take the forks off and install the bucket. C-Series14 15 #17 Posted November 15, 2009 Pump mounts on a bracket right in front of the PTO. A small belt runs the pump. Will have to get a pic tomorrow....
