Whispertje 0 #1 Posted January 17, 2009 I have some problems with my Wheel Horse 227-5, the transmission belt is slipping when driving. Because de belt was in bad condition, I tried to replace the transmission belt. It looked to me an easy job to do. But do I realy have to remove the transmisson for replacing the belt? Please help...?
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #2 Posted January 17, 2009 It might appear to be impossible, but a new drive belt can be installed without removing the transaxle. It might be easier if you remove the rear fender/seat assembly, and you will probably have to loosen or remove the belt guides located beside the transaxle pulley. Start by sliding the new belt over the top of the pulley from the front and start one side in to the pulley groove. Turn the pulley by hand so the belt get pulled down into the groove. Once the belt is on the transaxle pulley, finish installing the belt on the engine pulley and tensioner. (clutch idler pulley) Reinstall/readjust the belt guides so there is 1/16 to 1/8 inch (1.5 to 3mm) clearance between them and the belt at the transaxle pulley when the belt is tensioned.
