701...Anybody know what these holes are for???

Started work on my 701 few nights ago. This is only gonna be a parade tractor/cruiser. So I'm in the process of filling in holes in the frame that are not needed to give it a cleaner look. Does anyone know what these holes were there for? There was nothing in them when I took it apart. The first two are just ahead of the front attachment bracket inside of the brackets for the front axle. The second two are on the sides just underneath of the back of the battery box.

Awesome. I knew the three in the front were for the deck attachment... Already filled them in as it's not going back on there. It was bent up pretty badly and isn't needed for what I'm doing. Do the two under the battery box have something to do with the deck as well? I just hate to do away with a hole I might need later on

Maybe I'm thinking of the Suburbans.  I know I have a blade bracket that came off the front of one of the early models.

The blade most definitely mounts from the rear.

:ROTF: Don't need the first one much here in Oklahoma, but may need the second one.

Professor you may need a Ice scrapper on it with all the ice in that area. Is your wife going to let you have this one or keep it for herself? Here in Oklahoma City all we do is keep the dust off ours. We need rain.

We have had this one for a while now...she actually wanted it when I first brought it home, but since we came down there and picked up her Commando from you and Steve that has kinda subsided. May change after I get it all done though who knows. And I hear you about the rain we need it bad here too the moisture during the ice storm helped quite a bit but still need a lot more

i will tell you once you get it done you will love it. i really like mine. and i had a tast of what it was going be like because my dad has a 502. the only down side to these ones are turning radius isnt has good has 63 and newer machines you have to make sure you take that in consideration when manuvering tight turns.

If this thing is even half as much fun to drive as my 1277 then I already know I'm gonna love it when it's all done. As far as the cool factor I already do. I love all our tractors (even the green one :hide:) but this one and the little Choremaster walk behind are my favorites when it comes to the cool factor

i like the little round hoods. the more i worked on dads 502 the more i wanted one lol. i bought  the engine i put on dads 502 (8hp kohler magnum then stuck a old carter carb with a 7hp k161 airfilter on it so hood would fit) front axle was replaced on his and i paid for another transmission for it because after years of use it was wore out. and i lucked out on my 701 it was given to me and it has the hy-2 lift and a plow lol.

Mine was given to me as well. I was in the parts store ordering a belt for my 1277. Guy asked what it was going on and I told him my Wheel Horse tractor. Another old man sitting there told me he had a Wheel Horse in his barn I could have if I came and got it otherwise it was going to the scrap yard. Brought trailer with us to town the next day...my jaw almost hit the floor when be opened the barn door and I saw it sitting there begging to be rescued

How does the hood fasten down at the front on these? I see a piece there that seems to be missing on mine. Was wondering what that small hole was for and now I see.

One of the uses for the front holes on the side of the frame was for a weight bracket.  There were cast iron weights that bolted to the front of the bracket.
