Wheel horse Wheel Color

HORSEOFCOURSE

i was wondering what the correct color white the wheels are supposed to be on these wheel horses. are the round fenders 60's a different white than the square hooded tractors from the early 70's? i have a fleet and would like to keep them correct as i take them to shows in the summertime. i have painted a few rustoleum's almond color which is like an off white and i have debated using regular gloss white instead. i'm not looking for a concours correct color but something close. i know that IH red is real close to the original WHEEL HORSE red. any info would be appreciated. :horseplay:

The color is called "Linen Beige".

krylon Gloss Ivory is just about a dead match, and is readily available.

Although paint color questions come up regularly, this one doesn't come up all that often. The parts lists showed an Ivory paint from '58 up to around '64. In '65 or so the wheels seem to have lightened up a shade or so and the parts lists began to show "Linen Beige." It was still being used at least up until the '80 models. The parts list for my '80 D-160 shows Linen beige touch up paint.

That leads me to believe that yes indeed there were at least two different shades of off white/ivory/beige/etc. paint. Most all the paints/shades listed on these posts are close and/or good enough. I have a set of NOS wheels from '63 that have been boxed up out of the light since they were new. They are just a bit darker or more greenish than any of the current off white shades, although the difference is VERY slight. The Cub Cadet beige is practically a dead on match. When I get a chance to have them matched with a spectrometer I will have the correct mixing code for the round hood wheels and will share it. It just may be a few months before I can get to it.

Cub Cadet uses it on the wheels. TSC sells Valspar paint in this color.

Hey Jim, the KOI Paint store down behind Eastland can match it up for ya. I think Stories can too (great guys to deal with).

KOI carries DuPont (nason) and Stories uses AutoColor (ICI)

If you need me to, I could come and take it up to the paint store for ya...Ill be going to Stories to pickup some primer/paint for my B and C in coming weeks..

I've dealt with Stories, although it's been a while, and liked them. Do they not carry Dupont any more? I tend to stick with it being as my FIL is a retired VP of overseas plant dev. and ops.. Gotta keep his pension fed.

The Car Quest paint shop is just down the street from the house. I'll either go there or to the body shop that did most of our cruiser repairs. The owners of both know me pretty well.

Well dont take to long getting that code/formula

Dont think Stories does DuPont anymore - not seen it on their shelves. DuPont is pretty pricey.

Personally, I prefer House of Kolor for all my custom stuff, and airbrush work. www.coastAirbrush.com sells in small qty for the small jobs. Too bad they cant paint

match or do custom mixed colors ..

Just thought I would jump in on this one. If not using base coat-clear coat on mind, I have started using Toro Red in the quarts and Rustolum Almond in the spray can. After using 2 or 3 different reds from Tractor Supply and different places, I really like the Red color from the Toro Red. I use the Almond on all my wheels .:thumbs:

come on warn weatherrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :horseplay:
