1075 roller and two decks

Recommended Posts

I am a bit tractor heavy and mower light. i found a mower deck that had the double d center pulley intact and that pulley would complete the 42 SD that I already have at less money than I have seen the pulley sell by itself. the seller had another 48 inch deck that would make a dandy for spare parts or a complete resto. I keep saying "no more tractors", but then there is the spare parts issue

The tractor is a shot in the dark, but it has some decent sheet metal and if the Sunstrand works, it would be a cute tractor with a 6,5 Predator.   .I plan to mount a pulley on a drill motor and turn the tranny pulley to see if the transmission will work

I have never seen a 42SD like this one in that the drive line on the mower deck has many pulleys that twist and turn the belt. The mower is driven with a separate jackshaft at the front. I am sure that you experts will know what it is, but I am clueless as I just got it off the truck. The blade mounts all seem oK and have the pipe extension grease fittings. I used BG inForce penetrating oil on on the 50 year old fasteners to get to some things and WOW. It went in 6 threads deep within minutes. A forum member recommended it and i think the kroil is going to stay on the shelf..

Anyway, i got it all for 125.00. Cross your fingers on the transmission.

The deck looks a lot like the one in this thread...But my tractor was only made in 1965.

Prior to the front mounted mule drive this is how the belt was routed.

PS; if you have the blades to go with them those older spindles can be used on newer decks, I have one with two 3/4" round and one Double D, works fine.

Well,OK As you can see, there is a 1075 with a two spoke steering wheel..With no motor. the first thing I did was apply BG In Force to every fastener. As you can see,

leaking transmission fluid combined with dirt to coat the wheel.and a wood shingle took most of that off. So it took about an hour to scrape most of it off the rear end. Then the solvents came out and a pressure washer with soap got it ready to work on. There was only a cup or so of ATF in the case, but it looked clean. With a new filter and a gallon of ATF, i threw a motor on the final drive and am very happy to report that it moves both in forward and reverse. The two decks, a 42 and 48 will combine with what I already have to make two serviceable units and some spare deck parts.

The shaft seals are bad on the tranny so I drained out the fluid to save and now it looks like some new seals are indicated.I am very excited in that a buck twenty five will net me three more working tractor/ mowers. All that rear end should need is the seals. The tires and wheels are in super condition and look pretty good with all that dirt/oil gunk removed. I might just throw a 6.5 HP predator on the 1075 for testing it out once the seals are on.The little short frames do look pretty cool and it may be difficult to see the rear end become part of another tractor. Yes, I have the addiction pretty bad.

I am assuming that i can remove the rear end and swap  it on the Raider 10 ,but we will see.

Remember the tranny has a hump in it so to drain it completely you need to lift the front of the tractor.

Also even though the transmission oil looked fairly clean, has it been setting a while where the contaminates have settled out?

since the dipstick doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the tranny, Take a stiff wire (coathanger) and hook a long strip of clean white cloth (roughly 1"-2" wide and long enough that you can keep hold of the opposite end) run it down the transmission fill tube and see what the bottom of that tranny really looks like.

I always do jack them up front end high when draining them. It has been partially drained again because the seals are leaking. So now I will jack it up and tilt it toward the drain plug yet again. The trouble with this tractor is that there is no lift cylinder, so it will at best be a parade tractor with a HFT Predator 6.5 HP I have lying around. Once it proves out. it may be for sale for just the transmission or just keep it around as a spare for the electro 12 transmission . The outstanding people here [on another thread] helped me find the proper axle seal and at a great price as well.

So this is what I was looking for in buying a deck. It is a double d pulley mounted on an iron spindle with two other spindles in great condition. However, the deck has no mounting hardware that fits my other tractors, so the salvage pulley will be driving my mower blades at higher speeds--maybe too high, but that will require calculation. I posed the underside of the original broken pulley with the replacement and you can see how much bigger the top[ driven from the engine] pulley is from the deck side of the pulley.

The second picture shows the RM425 deck as bought. Aside from bent wheels, it is in really great shape. Since this is a tractor thread, I need to start the repair process and make a deck thread when the process proceeds. i am still happy and hopeful about the tractor transmission, but it will need a mounted engine and new axle seals to perform. It was worth bringing home for the tires alone.  Thanks for all your help
