FlatbedAndy 17 #1 Posted January 9, 2017 I really don't think the snap ring will hold. Have heard the axel can be drilled and a roll pin installed , but what will it take to drill this hard shaft ? This is on a sunstrand with the 10 pinion axel
daveoman1966 3,828 #2 Posted January 9, 2017 How long is that axle shaft...? I have a few 1 1/8" axles in much better condition that will retain the snap ring... I'll send the snap ring too.. Also count the number of splines so I can match up for the gear too. my direct email is: daveoman@windstream.net
R. L. Addison 299 #3 Posted January 9, 2017 Recut the groove and use a new ring. Looks to me like the ring was installed 180 degrees off.
stevasaurus 23,106 #4 Posted January 9, 2017 The axle is not hard steel and drills easily. The older axles that had the roll pins used a 1/4" X 1 1/2"...that was for 1" axles. You would want a roll pin that is 1/4" by about 1/2" longer then the 1 1/8" axle...if available. This and the above options are all good.
