jim3sr 2 #1 Posted January 8, 2017 Have 2 310-8 tractors ,1990 my steering is horrible turning the wheel to the left is ok but turning the wheel to the right the turning is real wide.My 1987 is normal with the radius same left and right. Why is this?
953 nut 60,326 #2 Posted January 8, 2017 The end of your steering shaft goes into a block bolted to the frame where it meets the fan gear. If the block is cracked or one of the bolts has come out the block will move when turning one way but may not when turning the other way.
KC9KAS 4,744 #3 Posted January 8, 2017 The gear on the steering shaft may have "jumped a cog" on the fan gear too.
Ed Kennell 42,130 #4 Posted January 8, 2017 With the wheels straight, check the position of the sector(fan) gear. It should be centered.
jim3sr 2 #5 Posted March 12, 2017 It appears that my sector (fan)gear is not centered on the steering shaft also the steering wheel is not strait apparently there was something done by a previous owner. Is there a easy way to reposition the fan gear to center it like loosening the block bolts? pfrederi 18,711 #6 Posted March 12, 2017 There is a shaft collar (#26)on the steering shaft. loosen it pull the steering wheel up (will bring the whole shaft #25) to disengage it from the fan gear. Get the fan gear centered get the steering wheel set the way you prefer and push back down Secure the shaft collar
