82Caddy 851 #1 Posted December 21, 2016 So found a 520h on Craigslist. Push blade, cab, and chains. 2000 hours. Seller claims the engine has never been replaced and that it has a Briggs and Stratton. Did such a thing ever exist from the wheel horse factory?
Achto 29,413 #2 Posted December 21, 2016 I only know of the Onan engine in that tractor.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,612 #3 Posted December 21, 2016 That looks like an Onan to me, and far as I know, 520s never came out with a Briggs engine.
82Caddy 851 #4 Posted December 21, 2016 Photos posted are ones I was sent from the seller and it looks like an onan to me as well. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing an obvious clue that it was replaced with a Briggs. Nothing wrong with that, just wanted to make sure. Thanks all.

slammer302 2,156 #7 Posted December 22, 2016 People seem to be confused by the onan. I've seen lots of onan powered equipment missed advertised. Maybe because their not as main stream as briggs, kohler, honda.
82Caddy 851 #8 Posted December 22, 2016 It's been for sale for close to three months now and I'm going to check it out in the morning. Seller is 110% positive it's a briggs and has had "several people" come to look at it to confirm it is a briggs. Has a few positives: Cab All 4 hub caps - They are pretty... chains big push blade Can run a two stage blower which I may or not already have Few negatives too... High hours No mower deck It's filthy (and cold out so no washing/cleaning) Priced high (IMO) at 850$ Anything I'm missing?
608KEB 796 #9 Posted December 22, 2016 It's a Onan. Look at engine ID sticker on the shroud. P220g 20h.p. Onan.
elliot ness 1,916 #10 Posted December 22, 2016 Onan for sure, bet on it.
Pollack Pete 2,273 #11 Posted December 22, 2016 I'd tell the seller that the Briggs isn't the original engine and due to that fact,I'd offer him 400 bucks.Ignorance is bliss...........BUT, ignorance is NO excuse. If he insists that's a Briggs, let him think he's right. We all know he's not. clueless 3,258 #12 Posted December 22, 2016 I've learned over the years not to argue the point with someone who's 110% sure about anything, you know what it is. Recently bought a C-81 from an older fellow, had it listed as a 1975 c181, called him and asked him if the tank was under the seat, he said yes, told him it would be a 78 or 79, he said he's sure he bought it in new 75. Went to look at it, was a 79 C-81 in good shape with a tub cart also a 79, bought it, the guy and his wife still swear he bought it new in 75. That's a nice looking tractor to have 2000 hr on it, the guy is probably not the original owner so he probably doesn't know the story on the hours, ie was the key ever left on. If those are the true hours that's a lot of hours on an engine known to have its share of problems starting around 400 hr. Tread lightly my friend.
lynnmor 7,848 #13 Posted December 22, 2016 If he is too stupid to know what engine is in there, he would be too stupid to service it properly. Might well be another Craigslist scam.

WVHillbilly520H 10,376 #15 Posted December 23, 2016 Let's see if this helps clarify whether it's an Onan vs Kohler vs Briggs twin cylinder engines in that order...
