Razkid 69 #1 Posted December 5, 2016 My 520H has 1200 hours on it so it is past due to be decarbonized and make tappet adjustments. Looking at it I'm wondering if it would be easier to take the engine out of the frame to make it easier to work on. I'm sure a few in the group have decarbonized their 520H so how should I do it? Razkid 69 #3 Posted December 6, 2016 Thanks for the video AMC Rules. I'm still wondering if I should remove the engine to make it easier to remove the heads and clean out the carbon. There isn't much room between the rear cylinder and the dash.
AMC RULES 37,196 #4 Posted December 6, 2016 From what I've read here, you're thoughts are spot on. Pulling this engine is no big deal... actually makes these chores so much easier to accomplish.
cleat 7,261 #5 Posted December 6, 2016 I pull them for that and for cleaning the frame under. Just need to remove Battery, PTO hoop, belt guard, drive belt, fuel inlet to pump, unplug 9 pin and headlights. Disconnect throttle and choke cables, unbolt engine from motor mount plate, bend back wire retainers holding battery cable so it comes with engine if you want to leave it connected to the starter. Lift out engine and sit on work bench. I do this by myself as the engine is all aluminum and is not really as heavy as it looks but you may want help. Draining the oil first will knock off a pound or two. Anything else you take off first will also reduce weight, air cleaner, muffler etc. You can take the hood off but it can be done with the hood attached.
Razkid 69 #6 Posted December 6, 2016 Thanks to you both! I've ordered the necessary gaskets and will clear off a spot on the bench to get ready for the cleaning and adjusting.
