very stupid move

:imstupid: i pulled a very stupid stunt yesterday, i went out to work on the GT1800. put the steering system on, put the hydro shift on and put the hydro pulley on, a little tight, tapped it with a hammer a couple of times, (My dad would have lamblasted me for this) but i was in a hurry, IT STUCK, so i grab the pulley puller and guess what , that thing busted , now it is frozen on and looks like i will have to use a torch to get it off, it seems the closer i get to completing this thing the more little parts i need, and i sure put a halt to completing until i get new pully, does any know the dia, and size of the pulley, went to partstree and they are a little high so will try ebay and grangers,, and next time i get in a hurry i'm gonna take a coffey break..

Be careful with the torch, might want use wet rags on the shaft to save the seal.

If my brain is functioning correctly this morning, I think the input shaft on the Eaton is tapered.

If that is the case, get a helper to hold pressure outward on the remaining part of the pulley while you tap the end of the shaft sharply with a brass drift. (DON'T beat the guts out of it though!)

You need to "release" it from the taper and that's probably the best way to do it.

Even if the shaft isn't tapered, this method will still work.

Here's a little reminder too.....

It the joining surfaces are tapered, clean and polish them and assemble them "dry". (No lubricant or anti-seize) This is very important on engine flywheels or you run the risk of one loosening.

If it is a straight shaft, clean and polish both surfaces and coat them lightly with oil or anti-seize before assembly. :hide:
