75' B80 Wheelhorse Repower

Recommended Posts

Well originally my 8 hp threw a rod, i fixed it rebuilt it and i threw another rod after about 10hrs of operation. It was cold and i started to hear a knocking, and boom it was too late.

But after spending all the time rebuilding it, i am looking to just replace the engine, I cannot find any more of the K181 8hps so i was thinking of Repowering.  What engines would fit without any changes to the mounting and PTO.

Links and Specific Details and model #s appreciated, i am going to search and see what i can pick up for the best price.

Thanks.

I maybe wrong. But anything besides a Kohler K series or Magnum 8hp will have to be custom mounted and will take sum work to make the PTO work. But it can be done have seen many people make the newer engines work.

You can look around in > HERE < , But even if a company advertises the engine is a " direct / bolt-in " replacement , don't expect it to just slip in without any modification(s) .

Wish i could find a decent priced running 8hp. People either have one not running, or outragously expensive rebuilds.

In my opinion you cannot beat a quality rebuilt Kohler. It would last much longer that today's throw away motors.

Dumb question, but do the K series share a lot of the same Components like, fuelpump, carb, starter.

I can find some running engines, but they all need the components.

If you mean an 8hp K to an 8hp K, all the components will swap.

if you mean K to M8 the major difference is the ignition parts but carb, fuel pump and starter will interchange

Just out of curiosity did you figure out what caused the 2nd rod to go?
