Razkid 68 #1 Posted November 22, 2016 I brought my "new" 520H home last week and got to talk with the previous owner, my wife's uncle, yesterday. He said he had a problem with the left rear hub loosening up and start to slide off of the axle. He bought a new hub, which I have, just in case he needed to replace it. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Going through the forum it looks like must people have a hard time getting the hubs off! Looking at the parts manual it looks like the hub is supposed to be held tight to the axle by two bolts with nuts that keep them from backing out. I'll be able to check the axle later when I change the axle seals. I also asked him why he removed the front idler pulley on the snow blower. I figured it had seized so he bypassed it but it turns out he said he removed it because the belt would start to slip and squeal when he raised the snow blower. A photo of this is in my 520H info needed thread. What looks like black oil and dirt around the blower pulley is actually belt dressing that he had been spraying on it! I think I have the original pulley so will put it on, buy a new belt and see what happens. This brings up another question. Can the height that the blower is raised off of the ground be adjusted? When it's raised all the way now, it is only an inch or two off of the ground. The right side will almost dig into the ground when you hit uneven ground while driving. AMC RULES 37,195 #2 Posted November 22, 2016 Not abnormal to find a leaking axle seal... to cause a hub to loosen up.
JAinVA 4,636 #3 Posted November 22, 2016 (edited) Razkid, The easiest way to adjust lift height is to add an additional washer or washers between the lift flag and lift tube. This I believe this is covered in the owners manual.JAinVA Edited November 22, 2016 by JAinVA
wallfish 18,054 #4 Posted November 22, 2016 All of the above Plus, when you install the idler pulleys back to the correct configuration for the blower, there is a tension spring which should apply enough tension to keep the belt from slipping. If it's not, time to get one that does.

608KEB 796 #6 Posted November 23, 2016 Is the set screw supposed to be tightened to 26lbs? Then tighten the outer nut to?

Razkid 68 #8 Posted November 23, 2016 Thanks to everyone for the great information. Does anyone know the diameter of the front idler pulley (115118) used on a 1990 0644SC01 snow blower drive? I got five different sized spare pulleys with the tractor so don't know which one to use.
