Since I am not knowledgeable about this, I am sure that others will be along to help you evaluate whether or not you need an entire rebuild or it could be just the valves or some other issue
stevasaurus 23,274 #3 Posted November 13, 2016 It's about $80 + for the rebuild kit on E-Bay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/351889900180?vectorid=229466&lgeo=1&item=351889900180&rmvSB=true The machine shop I found will hone the cylindar , turn the crank, and grind the valves for around $100. Mine is an 8hsp K181S.
woodchuckfarmer 333 #4 Posted November 13, 2016 That's a good price Steve.
pacer 3,177 #5 Posted November 13, 2016 This is one of those questions that there just isnt any way to answer because until it is disassembled and inspected to determine what is needed. It could run from the low of what Steve mentioned, less than a hundred, to an all out rebuild that can run into multiple hundreds. To turn crank, bore, do valve seats & valves (or replace?), etc depends on small engine service that is available in your area (in my area there is little to no service of this type) Some of the shops are quite reasonable and some are not!! Another huge factor here is - do you have the ability and have the necessary tools to do a disassemble/reassemble if indeed all it needs is re-ringing? -- ring squeezer, valve seating tools, torque wrench, get the flywheel off, etc. To acquire these very necessary tools can quickly add more expense to the equation. 953 nut 59,734 #8 Posted November 21, 2016 If the cylinder is out of round or is worn beyond specs it will need to be bored. Select a good machine shop that you intend to use and they will measure everything for you to see what is needed.
