davedean 2 #1 Posted November 7, 2016 What causes this motor to run, but loses power (rpm)? I cleaned the carb , it was surging when I bought it, I got rid of that problem by changing positions of the governor arm and spring. Now the rpm slowly drops after driving it for just a few minutes. I have the throttle cable wired wide open, because the throttle cable would drift down very quickly. I haven't tried the tractor with a load yet, but I'm afraid it won't be able to handle it yet. The engine was running very rough when I bought it, it's better now. New air filter and prefilter and plugs. Thanks
woodchuckfarmer 333 #2 Posted November 7, 2016 Check your gas tank vent , fuel filter and valve clearance . set the governor back to factory settings. If it still surges clean the carb .plug wires are a good idea too. Wayne
scotty 252 #3 Posted November 8, 2016 (edited) I agree i would put the governor back to its original spot and clean the carb thoroughly. I had to clean the carb twice on my onan. And for the throttle cables drifting back down you can pinch the rivet on the control and it usually helps hold the throttle from backing down. davedean 2 #4 Posted November 24, 2016 I solved the surging problem by moving spring location on the govenor. I wish that fixed my power problem, but I'm sure the front piston is not moving when I rotate the crank. It's running on one cylinder, bummer. Can anyone tell me the the size (length and diameter) of the output shaft on a 16 hp. Onan is? Look like I'm gonna have some engine parts for sale if any one is interested.
