May have spotted a Ride-Away Senior!

While out on the fire truck today, we were coming back from a mutual-aid call to another part of town we don't go to often. I sit facing backwards and was staring out the passenger side window when we started to pass a house with lots of junk on the right side of it. As we continued past the house I saw a lot of other junk in the front yard and started to pay attention. When we past the house and I had a good view of the left side, I saw a tractor that looked just like the one here,:

covered all over with vines. I thought to myself, :hide: could that actually be a Ride-Away Senior. The fire truck was only going about 20 MPH and I studied it as good as I could. If it's not a RS, it's something very close. We couldn't stop as we had to get back to our district :hide: . I could barely keep my thoughts in check thinking that some junk man could show up later today and haul it away. Rest assured I will back there right after I get off tomorrow morning with camera in hand. Of course, I will make sure I am still wearing my full station uniform hat included. Sometimes it can really help to be a fireman :D

Fireman...I hope it is a Senior & you get a bargain if it can be had.

Even if it's not a Senior be sure to share your pics whatever you find.

There were a lot of old garden tractors made back then that can look similiar....Speedex,Shaw,Jaques MM & Power King/Economy's

In the fall of 07 I went to check on an add for an old Economy tractor & it turned out to be two Pond Lever Steer's. :D

Good luck. :hide:

Get some good pictures of what you saw, Wheel Horse did sell Seniors up in the New England states .... you ought to see the pictures that were sent to me from a New England John Deere dealer of what was hiding up in their attic. :omg:

The people that find the most Wheel Horses are the ones who go to houses like UPS deliveries, Propane deliveries, Tow truck drivers, line men, plumbers, electricions ect ect ect. Now I will say you are the first Fireman who admits looking for Wheel Horses .... although I do hope ya' take care of the reason your working at a house first! :hide::D:omg: I had my life saved by two firemen, it is a tough job you do and I appreciate the job you do! :hide:

You mean you haven't got the Capt. or the Lt. dialed into this WH business yet? Red trucks - red tractors - there is a connection, and even out of district, there must be something that looks like a potential safety issue to warrant a stop! Even if the pump operator "thought" he forgot to close a gate or some such..... :D

Good luck tomorrow - we're all pullin' for you!

Well, unfourtunately it isn't a Pond. Seat spring is "U" shaped not zig zag. Didn't see the big lift handle next to the seat. I only had my digital video camera and there were kids and parents standing on the sidewalk on both sides of streets waiting for the school buses, so I didn't want to walk into the the yard. So, I shot the video from across the street while holding the camera at my side. Anyone recognize what type it is? The frame looks to be out of tube steel. The front rims sure do look the same as the Ponds! Oh well, didn't think I could have been that lucky :hide: .

It's amazing though. I find myself looking in yards and lots everywhere I go now hoping to see a red blur in the shape of tractor. Anyway, here's he video:

Thats a bummer Fireman...seems like you have to go through a lot of rotten eggs before you get lucky & find a golden one.

I tried opening the link, but it won't enlarge?

Hard saying what it is in the pick....Economy, Gibson, Mayrath maybe? :hide:

I think you guys nailed it. I just found this picture of a Mayrath:

Look at the big spring just behind the front tire then go back and look at the same place in the video. Sure looks the same to me.

Fireman...keep in mind if it is an old vintage garden tractor like a Mayrath, someone will want it.

Check in on it...if it can be had you can always sell it & generate more "Horse" funds. :hide:

I agree tickster. I just talked to another guy at the fire department who lives near the tractor. He said the guy put it out for a lawn decoration well over 10 years ago and maybe more, he couldn't remember. Not sure if he will consider parting with it, but by the looks of it and the general condition of the house and yard, he might for a little scratch :hide: . I go back to work on Friday and get out Saturday morning. I am going over there to talk to him.
