Ian928 46 #1 Posted January 5, 2009 A local store sells cheap chains for ATVs. We have chains on the rear wheels but are struggling with steering at times. I am wondering if someone can help me dechiffer the different tire sizes and tell me if one of the three dimensions they stock will fit? The front tire reads 18-9,5. What does this mean? The link below is to the tire sizes they stock chains for: http://www.biltema.no/products/product.asp?iItemId=116265 And here is the sizes from their site: 25 x 8 x 12 25 x 10 x 12 27 x 12 x 12 Also here I do not know how to read these sizes. I am guessing this is for bigger wheels because of the first number on the ATV wheel is much higher than on the tractor (I am guessing that is the outer diameter on the wheel?) I know these chains is not good for steering, but they probably are better than nothing.
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #2 Posted January 5, 2009 Tire dimensions are listed as height X width X rim size. The front tires on your D are the same as the rear tires on many of the crappy little lawn tractor rear tires like MTD, Murray, or Craftsman. You should be able to go to most any place that sells any of those tractors and purchase a set of chains in the size you need. (or look on ebay - or do a search for LAWN TRACTOR CHAINS.) Here's one to get you started. :hide:
Ian928 46 #3 Posted January 7, 2009 Thank you Terry! Out of curiosity, there is only two numbers on my front tire, 18-9,5. Does this mean the tire is 18" high and 9,5" wide or 18" high and fitted to a 9,5" rim?
