953 nut 60,220 #4 Posted October 11, 2016 The Wheel Horse is a well built, sturdy and mechanicaly simple machine. Drive it around in all gears and see that everything functions as it should. There are few hidden faults to be looked for. If you find that there aren't any unusual noises or jerky movements you can pretty well go with what meets the eye.
slammer302 2,156 #7 Posted October 11, 2016 I would focus most of my attention to the engine the rest of the machine is pretty well built and easy to fix if thier is a problem.

Parts and attachments are fairly easy to come by for this series of tractors also. Check for rust through of the mower deck shell, if it has one with it. And although I've never seen a cracked frame, some of the members here say to check the frame where it mounts to the transaxle.
