wally426ci 0 #1 Posted October 11, 2016 I saw a thread referring to throttle cable issues in my search, but could not find anything showing an alternative: Yesterday was my "maiden mow" job with my 857. For the majority of the hour, I was holding the throttle out because Locking to the right was not holding. Toward the end, it seemed to be ok but wondering what my options are. In addition, is it a quarter turn or am i "screwing" the cable in until it locks? Owners manual does not specify. Thanks!
wallfish 18,154 #2 Posted October 11, 2016 It should only take about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn to lock it. Originals were twist locks but it could've been replaced with one that wasn't. If it is a twist lock and springing back as you keep turning it to lock it, you can try disconnecting it at the engine, then turn knob until it locks, then re-connect the cable. If you bend the cable, the wire inside will stay bent a little more than the conduit and cause friction inside the conduit. Just do a little each time until it works the way you need it to, too much will make it difficult to use.
Mike'sHorseBarn 3,249 #4 Posted October 11, 2016 Screw the cable until it locks. I put a new locking cable on my 855 (same cable as your 857) and mine won't stay locked at high speeds no matter how tight I lock it. I don't know if they are still available from Toro, but the one I got was from Stens.
