ohiofarmer 3,372 #1 Posted October 9, 2016 We have been way behind schedule with Mother's health issues, so we finally made it to the auction house to pick up her check. I got there just in time to see a really nice JD 318 sell. I was told that these had the 'Owen' engine by a resident 'expert" Anyway. the 318 had a replacement Honda engine. I have never heard a sweeter sound than that, except for maybe a the original Johnny Popper, Harley, and of course, a Kohler cast iron. It sold for 2600.00 and no doubt would outlast anything new [at a big box store] at the same price. Someone got bang for the buck on that sale. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,602 #3 Posted October 10, 2016 Yes, 318s came with a 18 hp Onan from the factory. They have been called one of the best lawn and garden tractor ever made, and with good reason. They were made from 1983 to 1992, and had a lot of features that you don't see in other tractors, like turning brakes, dual hydraulics, power steering, transmission cooler, and with the optional 3 point hitch, they could handle just about any ground engaging attachment.
