WHwest8597 85 #1 Posted September 20, 2016 I posted a few weeks back about the amount of heat that blows on the right side near the brake pedal. I tried mowing with pants and can still feel an excessive amount of heat. I have contacted Toro, but they have never had any reports of excessive heat in this area. Any suggestions? WHX?? 51,845 #3 Posted September 20, 2016 Any accessories on it that could be causing it? Throw up a few pics of the offending area...
WHwest8597 85 #4 Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) Here are a few pictures The opening behind the muffler is where the heat is coming from. Right below where it says WHEEL. All heat on my 314-8 comes out the front and side of muffler. Edited September 20, 2016 by WHwest8597
WHX?? 51,845 #5 Posted September 20, 2016 I was going to suggest making sure the engine fins are clean and not re-directing the cooling air but it looks to be clean. Check the shrouds on the back side of the motor for correctness. Is that opening where the exhaust exits the only outlet for the cooling air? Any problems with engine over heating, sure wouldn't think so. Nice tractor BTW

WHX?? 51,845 #8 Posted September 22, 2016 The shrouds or "tins" are what surround the cylinder fins to direct the cooling air over the cylinder & head. From what I see yours all look to be correct. Sometimes a guy has to take them off to clean under them and they don't always go back on right. ...ask me how I know...
Tonyp 285 #9 Posted September 23, 2016 (edited) Remove the muffler guard and inspect the muffler, especially at the rear. I have a 315-8 and what you are experiencing is certainly not normal. that being said, next time you take it out, use a metal plate and place it near or around the rear of the muffler or motor to block the excessive heat, learn where the excessive heat is coming from. Find the source of the heat. oh yeh, sounds dumb, but make sure the motor is properly filled with fresh clean oil. WHwest8597 85 #10 Posted September 24, 2016 I took off all the tin surrounding the engine found the fins right below the sparkplug all clogged. I'm going to run the tractor and see how things are going. Just from running It feels the the air is redirected. I will post a picture later of the fins clogged.
