MalMac 1,332 #1 Posted September 17, 2016 I have got a C145 auto that after it sits for a day or two, you can smell gas as you walk buy it. There are no leaks. I thought maybe the float might be stuck letting gas in as it sits. You would think after awhile if that's what's happening the bowl would empty and evaporate. Since the carb is higher than the tank it would not be getting gas in it? The strongest smell is from around the motor. It's got me perplexed as to what's going. 953 nut 60,224 #3 Posted September 17, 2016 I had a rubber fuel line that was weeping the slightest amount of gasoline above the deck, never could find it until I removed the deck to perform end of season maintenance, the accumulated grass clippings had a bit of a gas smell, sure enough, damp fuel line. It never did get bad enough to be noticeable.
Digger 66 3,488 #4 Posted September 17, 2016 Replace your rubber fuel lines if your using oxygenated fuel . Ethanol dries out all the rubber components in the fuel system over time .

Wishin4a416 2,191 #6 Posted September 18, 2016 I always have the slightest smell of gas around my tractors because of the vented gas cap, but you say it is closer to the engine.
Digger 66 3,488 #7 Posted September 19, 2016 Did you run your fingers around the bottom of the fuel pump ? Not sure if yours is the same as my Raider but I had the same thing happen this spring & tightened the screws a bit & no more smell .
MalMac 1,332 #8 Posted September 20, 2016 I am just going to start with process of elimination. I'll start with taking the carb off and plugging off the line. In a couple of days if the smell goes away, then I'll know it's not the gas line or anything involving the tank.
