I'm new to club I have a c160 automatic I'm having trouble with the hydrostatic when you want to go forward it doesn't want to move and then it will take off wide open.i also see that the plastic peace that to looks like it control's the forward and reverse motion is cracked and brittle.any idea

I would say that ur linkage for the motion control needs sum maintenance. I would try to find a replacement for the cranking plastic piece. 

If it's the 5996 speed control cam thier is a new one on eBay for 18$ I think

Aside from the 5996 cam you MAY have a issue with the tab weld at the end of the control linkage shaft.  If broken, the shaft will move almost at random...independent of the  motion control lever. 

You should also look for cracks in the frame plate where it bolts to the front of the transmission.  If really bad, the tractor with flex at that point, allowing radical movement of the cam 5996.
