Smitty is correct..... and Michael - those model numbers do have a real meaning for a few years, believe it or not! :hide:

The first digit is the "ones" digit of the decade: 7 = 1977.... 9 = 1979, etc.

I believe the next digit is the "equipment classification"..... 1 = WH tractor, 5 = mower deck, 6 = snow removal ..... etc.

(Then the hyphen)

The next two digits are horsepower, or size.... 12 = 12hp, 48 = 48" width, ...... etc.

The next digit (letter) on the tractors is engine manufacturer.... K = Kohler, O = Onan, B = Briggs, R = Robin, T = Tecumseh ..... etc.

Next digit (letter or number) on the tractors is transmission mfgr or type.... 8 = 8 speed, E = Eaton, S = Sundstrand, P = Peerless....... etc.

Implements and attachments use those two digits to identify what they are by an abbreviation - which is sometimes in a strange code...... MR = mower, rear discharge, MS = mower, side discharge, ST = snowthrower, TL = tiller, etc...... Some of these don't make sense to us, but I guess Wheel Horse knew the designations. :D

The last two digits appear to be the "line change code", or progressive model updates as the attachment, accessory, or tractor was updated or changed from the original build plans.

As I stated before in another post. This is my interpretation and is no way guaranteed to be correct. :hide:
