Tonyp 285 #1 Posted September 11, 2016 Acquired this 315-8 last week . Overall it's basically the same as my 1987/310-8. 414 hrs, very clean machine. even though it was in very nice clean shape here is what I did: Drained the transaxle, let it run with diesel fuel to clean it,(on blocks of course) then filled with new gear oil New gas line and gas filter checked and cleaned all electrical connections , switches etc. cleaned the frame of some gooy build up around the motor and oil filter as well as some dirt and build up around the transaxle area changed oil/filter and air filters cleaned and lubed the choke, throttle cables and carb linkage grease checked tire pressures , 12 psi x 4 cleaned deck underside and painted it greased spindles, checked, cleaned and oiled pulleys inspected all belts, so far so good ! sharpened blades whats next ? Top of the hood has some scratches so some sanding priming, masking and red paint is required. The rear fender although is in good shape will be repainted as one area has some mild blemishes. I probably went a tad overboard but when things are apart , your hands and tools are oil'y, may as well go the distance. I now know exactly what I have . A new reference.
oldlineman 1,537 #2 Posted September 11, 2016 A little TLC never hurt anything, I have a 1979 C 101 bought new , and a 1989 414-8 second owner, and thats what has kept them going all these years. They are well made just need some love to keep going, something like the better half.
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,499 #3 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) Your doing the right thing, probably like most here would do. I am that way. I like your reference point comment to, how true that is. I forgot to, I keep a little log book. Every time something gets done on a tractor, I put the date, work done, and hours on machine at the time. That's my reference point.
