Swaping out a "C" tower for a "B" tower?

Recommended Posts

I bought and restored a 1979 "C" last summer.  I like it but, I was disappointed in all the sheet metal they added in comparison to my simpler 1967 867. Has anyone swapped out the "C" sheet metal with the simpler "B" sheet metal? Exactly, what parts are involved besides the tower itself??  Another reason for switching to a "B" tower is I don't like how the deck/plow lift lever - in the up position - sticks out so far that it hits my leg. My 867 doesn't do that. Thanks, Ron

I've never done a swap but I'm pretty sure the pto controls and possibly the lift arm parts are different.

I think that before I went to all the trouble to make that change, I'd just get a 1977 C series. The frame, for one is different, the PTO levers, battery holder gas tank holder, etc. are all different.

Making modifications and improvements is fun!  With that being said, I would leave the gas tank under the seat, make a new battery holder that would turn the battery around 90 degrees. How is the frame different? I know the lift handle is different (that'a one of the reasons for the change) and I'm sure the belt guard is too. How about the foot rest?

Take a look at the parts pages for each. As an example, here is the frame from a 1979 C-121.

And here is the 1977 C-120 frame

Hole patterns are different, and the C-121 has additional rods sticking out the sides. As far as the footrests, they are different as well.

It's your call. If you want to try the swap, more power to you, but I'll stick with my previous comments.
