Dave's 854 75 #1 Posted September 1, 2016 I use a long shank eye bolt because I cant find a 2 inch ball with such a small shank. For small trailers at low speed only.
Digger 66 3,488 #2 Posted September 1, 2016 Welcome aboard . Perhaps you could mock up a piece of 1/4" flat plate using the existing hole for an anchor point & butt it up to the backside for when you're stopping . Looks like it's chewing the heck out of that rear pan . If it's for light duty only . Just a thought .
Dave's 854 75 #3 Posted September 2, 2016 thanks for the comment and what talent you have with the imaging! Hopefully, the 854 tractor will soon be the trailer mover and the Toro can be just a mower. P.S. I had just finished mowing and moving the boats and should have washed up before pictures, please excuse me! Its clean and in the shed now.
cschannuth 3,817 #4 Posted September 2, 2016 An 1 7/8" ball will work for a 2" coupler safely for low speed maneuvers and you can get a smaller shank. I move my 18' car hauler around my place with no issues.
tunahead72 2,546 #5 Posted September 2, 2016 Ooh, I like that idea! Off the top of your head, do you know how big a shank supports a 1-7/8" ball, and will it fit inside the hole at the end of a standard 300 series drawbar?
Dave's 854 75 #6 Posted September 3, 2016 I was unable to find a ball with a shank less than 3/4. Also, I needed some height so I could lower the trailer onto the (ball) using the tongue jack. As you can see, the drag causes the eyebolt to rotate aft, so I used another eye to stop that.
