Short Circuit 27 #1 Posted August 31, 2016 I am wanting to install a tachometer on my K321, and noticed under the flywheel housing on the aluminum bearing plate are some posts and hole perhaps for wiring and mounting a speed sensor bracket. There is also a machined bulge on the OD of the flywheel. Is this something that was used on some models of Wheel Horse tractors as a speed sensor or electronic timing setup? oldredrider 2,547 #3 Posted August 31, 2016 They are mounting holes for a pick up on the magneto model Kohlers.
pfrederi 17,169 #4 Posted August 31, 2016 I believe the two holes are to mount the trigger assembly used in breakerless igniton systems of the 70s. The lump on the flywheel is what activated the trigger. The breakerless systems "wasted" a spark on the exhaust stoke as it fired with each engine revolution
Hossenfeffa 49 #5 Posted August 31, 2016 I tried one of those digital tach/ hour meters on my K301. Did not work well at all. Too much electrical noise in a points system
