Itsawheelhorseofcourse 10 #1 Posted August 23, 2016 I have what I think is a 1962 wheel horse with a serial number 62-15465. Can anybody tell me what model this is? I have looked at the 502, 552, and 702 they all look the same, different engines of course. Mine does not have the original engine so it makes this more difficult. any help is appreciated!
AMC RULES 37,196 #2 Posted August 23, 2016 Once you open this link up... ...you'll see a list of documented serial #'s listed here. Might help you to narrow down your model #. I'd say, based on your serial #, you've found yourself a 702.
stevasaurus 23,281 #3 Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) With out the engine...they are the same tractor. Do you have the belt guard?? The belt guard has a square indentation that also had a sticker that had 502, 552, 702. If it was painted over, use acetone on a rag and "gently" rub to loosen the paint and remove. A picture would be nice and maybe help...the 502 was a pull start and had a tool box where the battery went for the 552 and the 702. If you have the tool box...it is a 502...and that is if you actually have a 1962 horse. Those 62xxxxx went into 1963 also... We would need some pictures to be sure. signed....chomping at the bit. Here is my 502, and you can plainly see the tool box right behind the engine. Here you can see the indentation in the belt guard...the 502 was painted over in this picture. The 702 is peaking out in the background and wondering why the 502 is getting so much attention. Edited August 23, 2016 by stevasaurus
Itsawheelhorseofcourse 10 #4 Posted August 23, 2016 Thanks guys! That is helpful! I think it may be a 702. The model sticker has been removed. There is just paint there and no decal underneath. Here are the pictures. Also there is no tool box behind the engine but that is not to say someone didnt take it off....
Shynon 7,482 #5 Posted August 23, 2016 I am thinking a 502 due to the toggle switch on the dash. 705 would have a key and a pushbutton below the dash on the hoodstand
953 nut 60,136 #6 Posted August 23, 2016 No telling what changes have been made by previous owners, the important part is it is a and it is yours! Enjoy it.

The belt guard could also tell you something ...The belt guard's engine mounting tab would be different between a Tecumseh and a Kohler provided it's the original one. Just my 2 cents....Adding a piece to the puzzle can always help narrow down what your trying to find. 4 hours ago, stevasaurus said: .the 502 was painted over in this picture. Steve, didn't know you had a 502.....looks nice. Would be an easy restore...

Itsawheelhorseofcourse 10 #10 Posted August 24, 2016 (edited) I bought this tractor about 15 years ago for $40. It was a mess. The hood had huge chunks cut out to fit the Briggs engine air breather. One of the front corners plus the indent for the decal was missing! The the bearings were rusted out of the tranny. I did a restore job on it then but never investigated the model number. The main changes that I can see on it is the engine and the belt guard. The belt guard had the front cut off so I rebuilt the nose of the guard to fit the Briggs. Also I built a hinge for the hood. Good point Shynon, it definitely was set up for pull start. The ser. number decal was placed over the hole. Was the 502 the only tractor in 62-63 that was pull start? Itsawheelhorseofcourse 10 #12 Posted August 24, 2016 That really makes it look like a 502. I'm about to settle on a 502.
