Where do I start

So fellas thanks for accepting me into the forum first off.  So now on to my questions. I just picked up a very nice condition 1980 C105 with  mower included. I brought it home found all the SN#'s on both tractor and mower deck. I was able to to figure out my tractor is a 1980. So last evening I was just out joy riding on it and my wife tells me to mow the grass...So I drop the mower engage the deck and off I go. I turn around to see how the cut looks and it was so-so. So I shut her down jump off and I as I do I realize the rear guide wheels are on the ground yet the front wheels are inchs up..the deck is angled down in the back. I do have the sn for the deck and would like to know if I am able to flatten out the deck to mow. Im new to WheelHorses so excuse my stupidity. Thanks

At the rear center of the deck is a threaded rod thru a trunion.  It could be disconnected or need adjusted.  Being that far out of adjustment sounds like it is disconnected.

Enjoy your new tractor, and yes you can adjust it by finding the adjusting rod in the rear center of the deck.

Welcome aboard!  Where in PA are you?

 

I believe your mower is actually model 05-37SC01 (37" side discharge?).  You should be able to find an operator's manual for this deck under the "Manuals" tab at the top of this page, it will show you how to level the deck, pretty much as the other guys have described.  I believe that deck can also be adjusted side-to-side.  When you're done, with tires properly inflated and the mower in the middle position on the height adjustment lever, the front end should be just a little lower than the rear  And no, those front rollers won't normally be touching the ground when you're mowing, only when you run across uneven ground (to keep the mower from scalping).

 

There's several other things that could be causing a "so-so" cut.  Dull blades or driving too fast are the first ones that come to my mind.

What they all said is correct. I have a 1982 C-105 and had similar issues a year ago when it was new to me. Once adjusted - mows through anything...

You will find that you need to mow at the highest setting or two - otherwise it mows very low / scalps...

Make sure you grease all the fittings on the tractor as well as the mower deck...

I forgot to mention earlier...

 

I'm no expert, but I believe that deck wasn't actually made until later in the mid-1980's, maybe for the 300/400/500 series.  It doesn't matter from your point of view, a lot of decks of that era interchange perfectly on a variety of tractors.  But it's possible that's not the original deck for your tractor.  Again, no matter, just something to be aware of.

 

Which makes me wonder...  Can you read the ID plate on your engine?  The original engine on that tractor would be a Kohler K241.

Is the deck dropping the whole way to the ground?   Is the lever stop knob turned out so that the lever used to raise the deck goes full forward and allows the deck to ride on the ground?  

The knob is the one to the left front of the gear shift.    Another possibility is the deck not properly attached to the lift arm.
