What do you think of this carb?

I was getting ready to rebuild this carb and couldn't get the bowl off without excessive force. So I soaked it a couple days in Berrymans and she opened up. Think it needs a rebuild or is OK as is? It's a Walbro and had been thinking about a replacement but I'll see how this cleans up. I think I'd win a dirty carb contest

I just tried to scrap the goop out of the bowl and it's as hard as a rock. I stuck it back in the Berrymans and we'll see what happens in a couple days.

I can see why it didn't want to come apart, it had been hermetically sealed.........   Only Carnac the magnificent knows the answer.

Don't leave to over a few minutes; alkaline based products eat aluminum! It may be fine as an aerosol spray to clean AC fins, but I wouldn't immerse anything made of aluminum in it.

That's why you can't leave it in it. 15 min tops. I cut it 50 50 with water and spray it thru an insecticide sprayer. Eats organic matter like no tomorrow. We get stubborn to clean blower wheels and hit them with this. dirt is gone in no time.

Ya scared me for a minute Mike. I first saw this on my phone and the picture didn't open. I assumed that you were talking about the Berrymans I was using. I'm thinking 'I soak stuff overnight all the time'. Now I know what you're talking about. I'll see what it looks like tomorrow and decide what the next step will be. If I don't get results I'm leaning towards a new carb. Never seen one this buggered up before.

Even Berrymans has calmed down from the old days. I guess from EPA and other laws. That stuff used to burn the hair clean off of your carcass.

You know you love a good challenge! Perhaps putting it in a "crock-pot" at the lowest setting with Berrymans would speed it up.   Don't tell Mrs. Racin and no, I don't want a bowl of stew.

After you soak it and think your getting ahead you will probably pull the threads out with the main jet !

For what E/Rag is selling replacement carbs for your better off going that route. I use them on customer engines when thy leave there carbs get eaten up from bad fuel and so on.

Just check them over real good as there are Good and Bad with those also.

It certainly has. The can I have now is a couple years old but nothing like the good stuff from the old days. Haven't you heard? Most everything from those old days has killed all us old fellers. We just don't know it yet.

Being alone all day the Mrs. would have a fit if she saw the things I do while she's not here but I'm thinking the crock pot thing won't be one of them.

I'll try Ed but looking at the cost of a new one I'm pretty close to hitting the 'buy it now' button. Later today I'll see what it looks like after soaking overnight.

Just had one like this last week, maybe not as bad, the body cleaned up..... all else was trash. Ate a hole through the side of the brass float.

It was a 7hp Kohler on a Troy Bilt Horse tiller. The neighbor ask if I could get it running. The mag was bad and it sat for ten years. (outside).

Says the machine was left to him by a family member that passed.

Buy the time I priced the carb parts needed, the complete knock off carb was cheaper. One issue was the gas tank. I had about the same crud and rust in the bottom inch.

Against my better judgment, I used muriatic acid to clean the tank.  Replacement tanks started used at $40 to new at $95.

Bob if it got a tank might want to take a close look.
