Need help with C 160 Belt Guard

Recommended Posts

I'm not the original owner of this C-160 so there have been a number of surprises along the way. The latest one was that there was an odd groove on the back of the belt. I find out that it was caused by the broken tab on the guard. The belt guard dropped down a little and was wearing out the belt. If anyone can help locate where the bolt hole goes once I weld on a new tab I would appreciate it. I am also thinking that the tab had a doubler where the bolt went through. Can anyone confirm that?  I'm also wondering about the location of that piece that holds up the choke cable.  It is behind the belt guard. That seems like an odd location as it would add stress to the tab which broke off. When I removed the top mount to the clutch linkage a bunch of flat washers fell out. They definitely were not there when it left the factory. I'm thinking that the PO probably put them there to move the guard away from the pulley. Comments on that would also be appreciated. Finally, the vertical view of the guard shows a missing chunk of metal I'm thinking that a bolt hole should have been there but I didn't see a mount for it. It just occurred to me that there was probably a mount there that broke off. I'll have to check that out.

My belt had the same groove.     Maybe these pics will help.

There is a tab with a 1/4-20 tapped hole on the bottom of the guard....no idea what it was for as it doesn't match any holes in the frame.

The bolt in the top tab also holds the cable support and a tab that is welded to the PTO lever support.

Ed

Thanks for the pictures they help a lot. I'm wondering if either of our tractors are original. The fact that my tab is broken off implies that it's used for something. Given the poor quality of the drawings in the manuals a sticky with actual photos like yours would help a lot.

Ed that tab mates to a hole in the floor pan. In other words it's part of the floor pan mount. I found the missing part of my belt gard. It's a right angle bracket that also mounts to that tab.

I'll have to keep my eyes open for that angle piece.

Does the angle connect to the bolt shown in this pic?
