Motolife 0 #1 Posted August 15, 2016 Hi I was hoping someone can help me out. I recently tried getting my c-81 running again. Last time I started it was roughly 5 years ago. I put all new fluids in, I cleaned the tank but didn't take it off the tractor to clean. Just let the garbage run out the drain hole on the bottom. I took the fuel line out and sprayed compressed air in it. Cleaned the air filter. Cleaned all the conections brand new battery. The only time it will run is when I spray starting fluid in the air filter but only for a second or two. Can someone please point me in the right direction ? 953 nut 60,220 #2 Posted August 15, 2016 The fuel line and filter should be replaced. Following that be sure there is fuel flow to the fuel pump and then be sure the fuel pump is pumping fuel. You may have to clean the carburetor and put a kit in it. Have you replaced the spark plug?
Motolife 0 #3 Posted August 15, 2016 Thank you 953 nut! I will replace the fuel line. I can't seem to find the fuel filter tho. Any help with that? Thanks!
scotty 252 #4 Posted August 15, 2016 I agree i would check the fuel pump to make sure that is pumping fuel.
Motolife 0 #5 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) I thought there wasn't a fuel pump if it connects from tank right to the carb Edited August 15, 2016 by Motolife
scotty 252 #6 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Does your c81 have the gas tank in the back under the seat? Edited August 15, 2016 by scotty
Motolife 0 #7 Posted August 15, 2016 Yes it does. Right under the seat
woodchuckfarmer 333 #8 Posted August 16, 2016 Then you need a fuel pump.
scotty 252 #9 Posted August 16, 2016 If it has the k series there should be a fuel pump right below the carb. I would bet thats why it wont run. My guess is it is just not hooked up

Thanks! Your tractor probably didn't have a fuel filter from the factory. Kohler makes a nice one that works well, although a little pricey. When you replace the fuel line is a good time to install one, I put mine behind the engine, about halfway between the rear of the engine and the steering gear so it's easy to see and get to. You should replace it every year.
MalMac 1,332 #11 Posted August 17, 2016 Since its been setting that long, do yourself a favor and do what has been said, make sure the tank is clean. Now change the line, put a filter in as suggested. Now move to the carb and disassemble. After sitting that long that carb will be all gunk up. Your going to need to clean out the bowl, clean all the needles making sure all small holes are clear. If you don't do this you will be chasing your tail trying to get it to run and stay running. Also like said you will need to make sure pump is pumping. You may need to fill gas line with gas. Sometimes these tractor will not pump the gas from the tank when line is bone dry. Not doing all these things can cause problems that you just keep chasing. Oh you might get it to run with only doing one or two things but more likely than not it won't run very long or run smooth.
