I broke my '857" need advise

Recommended Posts

stevasaurus

I was plowing snow and I tried to move a little more then it could handle...snow was frozen...I had the back wheels turning and wasn't moving...when I tried to back up she wouldn't move. I had to push it back into the garage. :hide:

I thought maybe I streched the drive belt, so I bought a new one...still no go.

With out it running, I put it in gear and the wheels seem locked. With it running

it will grind when trying to put it in gear. I also noticed the breakdrum not turning when idleing...not sure about that. I didn't hear anything break and the shifter

seems to be OK...with engine off it can be put into gear.

Are there numbers on the trans to determine what it is? Is it something that can be fixed? :hide: We have been getting our share of snow here, and I was having a ton of fun moving it...need some help...thanks :D

Check the woodruff keys in both axles. (pull the hubs) If they are OK, check the key on the input shaft, then the key on the engine pulley.

With it running it will grind when trying to put it in gear.

with engine off it can be put into gear.

When it does this is the belt guard on or off? You need the guard on to keep if from grinding while running. Like Terry said, check the keys.

WIth the clutch fully engaged is the pulley on the trans turning?

Keep in mind that the brake drum will only move when the axles move, it does not turn with the tractor in neutral. The brake shaft gear is also the pinion gear driving the bull gear.

Check the oil in the transmission also, make sure you do not see any metal.

terry, buzz, rolf & wild bill...pulled off the blade, the seat , rear tires...then pulled the hubs...sheared both pins, they have them in stock...pick them up tuesday 1/6. I will wait to hear from you, but I figure on fileing the axil burrs...not bad. Greasing the spindle, cleaning the hubs. I do not have any filings in the trans oil. If the rearend is like a car without positraction...then it seems OK..ie...spin the axil from any side..the other goes in reverse...hold one side and the other doesn't move. I could be very lucky, and I would think there would be some kind of a shear pin somewhere. I sheared one drift pin in half and the other was kind of smashed...I can't believe the power these horses have. Thankyou for your expertise...let me know if I should check something else before I put it back together...try to take pictures of the drift pins...hard to believe they sheared like that........REDSQUARE RULES    :hide: :D

well...I tried...the woodfuff keys were the problem, and the tractor is up and running :D ...got to use it today as we got 2 inches of snow. The problem is that I took some pictures, uploaded them into photobucket in a folder...but I can't seem to get them into here. Before, I could click on a picture, right click, do a copy and paste them into this message. I was using the IMG code, but copy is not an option. Any ideas. :hide::D:hide::omg::omg::D:party::party:B)B) :D

Steve

Once you click the IMG button put your cursor between the two brackets ][ and then use paste to insert the code for the picture.

Best of luck. :hide:

Well, I can tell you that Photobucket has done some strange stuff lately.

If you hover over the pic, roll down to the IMG option, LEFT click to highlight it, then right click. Instead of rolling to "Copy" after the right click, just hit the "c" key on your keyboard.

For whatever reason, I can click on "copy" after highlighting it, but the IMG code does not copy for me now, as it always has. Do I have an answer? :hide::D:hide:

Same thing happens on any one of 3 computers I use. Go figure...

Kevin

somehow the process has changed...here is what I ended up doing..

once you have your pics in photobucket...

1.put mouse on picture

2.select IMG code...left click

3.move mouse to purple window and right click

4.select copy

5.go to forum and right click and select paste

BOOM SHAKALAKA :hide::D

Try that...
