SSman 34 #1 Posted August 15, 2016 There's a c195 near me for sale with a whopping 4400 hours on it!! It seems to run ok.The deck is rough needing all spindle bearings replaced, blades as well. Pulled the trans dipstick and it was dry as a bone. The front wheel bearings are wiped out. One headlight doesn't work. It was bought new by a local cemetery and im assuming everyone and their sister rode it. No other attachments,no 3 pt hitch, and 48" deck. Guy wants $1,550 and is pretty firm. Is this outrageous? For some reason,I want it pretty bad. It's a big,bad horse! Please help,I need some direction as it will be my first horse. Thanks!
elliot ness 1,916 #2 Posted August 15, 2016 Yes to much for it. It sounds like it needs 1500.00 of work, and you can buy a good one from 1000.00 to 1800.00
SSman 34 #3 Posted August 15, 2016 My thoughts exactly. He has my contact info. Maybe he'll come to his senses on it and let it go for what i'd pay,$300-$400 tops. I've never seen one in Mass for sale, but might just have to wait for the next one. Thanks!
Upper Canada 213 #5 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) I am getting this c195 for $500. Comes with a 60 inch deck as well. Looks rough but runs great. I would walk away from the one you are looking at. Edited August 15, 2016 by Upper Canada
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,499 #6 Posted August 15, 2016 Welcome to red square. For that price I would definitely pass. Way to high. Glenn

BESTDOGEVER 218 #9 Posted August 16, 2016 Only a wheel horse c195 could survive 4400 hours of that kind of neglect and abuse but anything over 150.00 would be crazy given the things wrong with it
SSman 34 #10 Posted August 17, 2016 Hello everyone, first of all thank you all so much for the great responses, input and opinions. I appreciate it bigtime! I am absolutely going to pass on it. He told me when we were discussing price the he supposedly turned down a $1000 offer from a WH collector. If so,he's absolutely CRAZY! My search continues. I may be looking for more opinions/input from you all during my search. I found a 1989 518h close by that i'm looking at on Sat. 450hrs,no attachments, just the mower deck. Been sitting in a shed for 4yrs needing a fuel pump. He's asking $300. I hope it's nice. In a new house, grass is 1' tall lol! Thanks again for your help, have a good one!
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,500 #11 Posted August 17, 2016 The North American 518-H's used a lighter duty model 700 Eaton hydro and can not use ground engaging attachments other than a tiller. The models exported used the heavy duty model 1100 Eaton hydro. Garry
SSman 34 #12 Posted August 17, 2016 Hi Garry,i've been reading that. Is the 700 still a decent tranny? How about a snowblower attachment? There's also a 1996 520h with 502hrs,a 2 stage snowblower attachment but no mower deck near me for sale. The seat has some splits and the chrome guard is missing from the exhaust. The woman wants $1000 for it. The deck would probably be fairly easy to locate,at least easier than the snowblower attachment. She has someone coming to see it today, and if they don't take it 'm next in line for it. Is that a good tractor for the price?
WHX?? 51,819 #13 Posted August 17, 2016 Its not the worst price for a 520 with a 2 stage. The blower might be worth 400 alone if taken care of. Should be able to find a deck for it no problem... around 450 for a 42 or 48 in good shape. Those are still pretty low hrs if all taken care of. I always allow some wiggle room for if one gets it home and find bearings or whatever that needs replaceing. oh and the 700 is not a bad tranny if not abused
SSman 34 #14 Posted August 17, 2016 I forgot to mention the 520 also has wheel weights/tire chains, and all paperwork, original owners. I hope the guy coming today doesn't take it lol. I will still look at/consider the 518. Is it crazy of me to buy both and have TWO WHEEL HORSES LOL????

You can't have just one! Some guys keep one tractor set up for one particular chore, such as a mower deck on one, dozer blade on another, one for towing carts, etc. Edited August 17, 2016 by TDF5G
SSman 34 #16 Posted August 17, 2016 That is actually a great idea. Have them both side by side in the garage all shined up. I can see how easily this grows into an obsession. Oh boy,my wife's gonna be mad lol!!!!

I forgot to mention another couple of reasons to have more than one , is having a backup in the event something breaks down until you can get a chance to do repairs or wait for parts to arrive. And it's just fun to have several tractors too, where you can jump on a different one and take off to do some work or just go for a cruise. Can't forget the fun factor!

SSman 34 #20 Posted August 18, 2016 Ok,so the lady w/the 520 got back to me. First guy not taking it. His wife says he has one already, not getting another,or at least that's the story. She also told me at first she wanted $1000 for it,now tells me $850 and it's mine. Red flag? Did the first guy pass from things he noticed? What should I.look for? It has no mower deck. She says it "bit the dust" which I don't see how? Does that have anything to do with the electrical problems these have? Also in pics I notice several drips on the ground underneath it. Rear end? Is the onan still good at 502hrs. It DOES come with a 2 stage snowblower, weights and chains. Seat ripped, chrome guard rotted from muffler, hood paint/decals in poor shape. Not alot of paint missing at all from the rest of the machine including the blower. It's a 1996.
