heres the kicker this thing shows signs it had head off (possibly rebuilt) i am thinking it was rebuilt. this wheel horse blew up 10 years ago or so. dad owned it 2 weeks prior to it blowing up. but its been a good one. it belonged to my dads ex wifes dad and my dad ran this machine back in the 80s pushing dirt around that yard and mowing. so its had alot of use. i will be looking for a transmission pulley also. it walked off shaft and into belt guard.

If that is the original K161 in that 754, please do what you can to save it.  You already know how rare that tractor is, and if it loses its original engine, some of its original provenance will be lost.

i do know that. engine will be running soon. but temporary engine was put on until we get everything squared away. dads got a used crank and rod he bought off ebay. also got new set of rings and gasket kit.

this is the 754 right now. i stuck a 8hp magnum on her has a temp engine. now its got a steering issue i am hoping to resolve by using the steering section on seat that is from a short frame square hood and fan gear is welded to shaft. original to 754 the roll pin is loose and i dont like messing with roll pins so hoping it will swap out and no one will ever know lol

My 854 had a similar issue.  I had a welder weld the fan gear directly to the steering shaft so that the issue would never happen again.  The roll pin in the fan gear is a common point of failure on these earlier tractors.  By the way, what is the serial number of your 754?

:twocents-02cents:         You will probably want to put the belt guard back on to prevent gear grinding.

Those roll pins are a simple fix. Drive out the old pin, drill to next size up and install larger pin. Don't weld stuff together that's not supposed to. 897109581avatar.gif252301634avatar.gif

I don't see what's wrong with welding the fan gear.  It's a permanent fix that works great, and will never wear out again.  I've had no issues with this fix, however replacing the roll pin will eventually wear out again.  Just my $.02...
