clueless 3,258 #1 Posted August 8, 2016 Got my new genuine kohler head gasket for the K181 in Sat. It's not the metal one, are the metal ones better? Just curious, Chris.
slammer302 2,156 #2 Posted August 8, 2016 I prefer the metal ones because they can be reused. But the non metals ones seem to seal just fine in my experience with them.
squonk 43,899 #3 Posted August 8, 2016 All of the Gen U Ine Kohler gaskets for the small K motors I have run across have not been the metal ones. I put a new gasket in Reddi about 4 yrs. ago along with new bolts.
Elkskin's mower junkyard 1,117 #4 Posted August 9, 2016 i havent messed with kohlers much. but since the early 90s i think all headgaskets are made up of graphite and other things. the old briggs gaskets if i was told correctly was metal with obestos in them. i dont know about kohlers though. rmaynard 16,342 #5 Posted August 9, 2016 From my experience, it doesn't matter which material you use as long as your head is flat (within .003"), and you tighten the head bolts to the correct torque, and in the correct sequence.
