Clay 5 #1 Posted August 7, 2016 Just put a new connecting rod in my 310-8 kohler mag 10. It been in my garage off my tractor for about 3 years. I decided to fix it and have it back on and it runs with starting fliud. Have no fuel coming out of the pump when mounted to the engine but if i take it off and operate it it pumps fine. Just dont get why it wont pump when mounted to the engine. Any ideas guys?

squonk 43,887 #3 Posted August 7, 2016 If it's mounted correctly, bad cam lobe. If that's the case, install an electric pump.
953 nut 60,204 #4 Posted August 7, 2016 I presume this engine ran well prior to having the rod go bad, therefore I would guess the cam lobe is good. Is there a good flow of fuel from the tank to the fuel pump? Is it mounted right side up?

Have you taken a small jumper wire from the battery positive to the small terminal on the solenoid to see if it closes?

There are 2 small terminals one just sparks a little and one will turn it over when you go from positve at the battery with a small wire
953 nut 60,204 #12 Posted August 9, 2016 Clay, the one that sparks a little is a grounded terminal, normal. Now you have proven that the solenoid, starter and associated wires are all good. Take a look at the starter circuit in the wiring diagram in the manual, follow the path.
953 nut 60,204 #13 Posted August 9, 2016 Could be the 15 amp fuse on the RED wire, could be the PTO switch TAN / PURPLE wires or it could be the clutch pedal PURPLE / LIGHT BLUE wires. If either of these is open or wires disconnected or the fuse is blown it will prevent the key switch from operating the solenoid.
