Lane Huls 146 #1 Posted July 21, 2016 So my newest purchase, a junkyard B-80 full of ants had no compression. Pull the head and find a stuck exhaust valve. No problem, deal with that. Then I noticed the intake valve never opens. I pulled the valve cover and the fuel pump to find the lobe never even moves in the slightest for the intake valve. The exhaust valve works perfectly fine, and the piston travels up and down with no odd sounds. Is this normal for a cam to just break like that? How easy is it to change? I have a parts k181 with a good cam. I know about the differences between the two cams.
prondzy 3,889 #2 Posted July 21, 2016 Never really heard of a cam breaking like that, would like to see pictures. Yes your other k181 cam should work just fine. If it broke check the wear on the camshaft pin (the one that runs through the center of your cam) and make sure you have the right camshaft thrust washer on the end of the camshaft. As far as replacement you will need to pull the entire engine apart to do this, the flywheel, bearing plate and crankshaft will need to come out, I would order a new gasket set and measure the crank out of round as long as you are there.

Split right between the two lobes. From what ive seen on this engine, im betting it is the exact same break. What I believe happened in the K90 was one or both of the valves were stuck and when it was turned over it broke the cam. The K181 I cant imagine that having been the case as it is a heavier cam I know. If/when I get it out ill sure let you know what happened..
