Swollen gaskets

Recommended Posts

Lane Huls

So these wonderful techumseh carbs right? I have pulled this one apart 3 times in the last 12 hours. This time the gasket is so swollen it is not going to go back on. Ive let it bake under a lightbulb and air dry in the wind. What can I do to shrink it (and other) gaskets? This is a brand new gasket. I know I could just go buy another, but it's the principle of it.

This is a frustrating issue. I have had some luck with leaving the gasket sit and dry out for a few days, but even this method is not 100%. Inpatients usually leads me to a new gasket.

I ended up getting this one shrunk down just enough. I threw it on top of the hot intake of my truck, on the plastic cover of course. It got it down just enough to get it back together.

Try putting the gasket in the freezer , set carb in sun or under light . I had my son do this on a carb with an o-ring gasket , and it went back together . I thought there was no way that o-ring would ever go back on that carb . Good luck !

On the intake stroke of a 4-stroke engine , or intake/compression stroke on a 2-stroke  !  :teasing-neener: :banana-linedance: :scared-notify:
