211-5 Losing Power When Hot?

Recommended Posts

Novice here.  My situation sounds pretty similar to the below one...

Tractor ran great first few hours I used it.  Lately, when I'm about 30-40 minutes into a mow, it starts to loose power unless I disengage the PTO or step on the clutch.  My yard is pretty steep, so I have that issue any time I'm running at an angle or uphill.  Fresh fuel, new spark plug, fuel line and inline filer new as well.  Next step is carburetor and muffler (long shot on that, I know).  Am I missing anything?

She sat in a barn for 20 plus years before I got it this spring, don't know if/how that would affect it.

Any insight or similar experiences would help.  Again, very much a novice so need it broken down nice and slow for me.  Thanks all

I'll take a guess and it's only a guess and easy to check - you said this tractor sat in a barn for 20 years .....sounds like your tractor might be getting hot under load - 1st thing I'd check is pulling the tins ( metal shrouds around engine that direct the air ) .... make sure mice or other critters didn't build a nest and block your air flow .

:text-yeahthat:  and maybe running lean from a little dirt in a needle jet.   Open the big needle 1/8 of a turn.

There should be a large mixture adjusting screw..... I think it is on the bottom of the float bowl.   Just screw it out a little 1/8 - 1/4 turn.  See if that makes a difference.   A lean mixture will make the engine get hot.  Making it richer might help.   And make sure the carb mounting screws are tight where it mounts to the motor.  .... they do come loose.   Also take the top off the motor and remove any mouse nests.
