The one and only tractor I bought that the P.O.

told me the battery doesn't charge.... Turned out

that someone got into it and miss wired it.

My most humble opinion is to check the wiring

with a reliable diagram. And of course you can

likely view and copy one on the Toro site.

Do you have the model/serial numbers of the tractor yet?

Teddy,

The only number I have is spec # is 24363 (off the motor) . I wanted to make sure that it was a series II which it is. I think you are on the money with the wiring issue. The po was telling me he was going to replace the wiring harness with an aftermarket. Do you have any good resources for a wiring harness? I don't think I will need it but it may make sense to start over from scratch. Thanks-

I have a 417-A parts tractor, which had a broken rod. The PO pulled the engine, but I believe that the wiring is still there. I will look tomorrow. If it is, I have no need of it. I will PM you if it's there.

Mark

You have no build tag on your 417-A with model and serial number?

Maybe someone can post one off of theirs, You can then use it on the

Toro site to find your wiring diagram.

Keep us posted.

Hodge,

Thank you very much for the offer, that would be great.

TeddyDaBear,

I was able to find the model number on the toro site but they no longer offer a wiring harness for it.

Thanks- Steve Bo

I kinda figured no harness itself.... But the wiring diagram is

available and important. You might be able to make some

minor repairs to the one you have.

:D My brother used to own a lot of trucks from the 50's so I have done quite a bit of repairs to wiring.

Here are some tips:

1) The best approach is to solder all splices and cover with heat shrink tubing. All ring connectors, quick fit connectors and other ends can be soldered as well.

If you can find it, there is a product called Liquid Electric Tape you can put on beofre sliding the heat shrink on.

I did the electrical system for a 32 foot wooden sloop this way and it worked out very well.

2) I you want to step down a level, you can use crimp on connectors if, and only if, you buy the proper ratcheting crimper tool to terminate them as well as the pneumatic crimpers used at the factory.

Heat shrink tubing is handy to have around as you can slide it over damaged insulation instead of replacing a section of wire.

Good luck.

That is a great suggestion. I am also into boating and that is how I do it too. I thank you again. Hodge pm me and he has one in pretty good shape. His is from a hydro, mine is a 8 speed, major differences? I will compare on the diagram.
