RJ 58 cluch spring

Recommended Posts

The clutch spring on my RJ broke yesterday, and I need someone to tell me where it attaches to the operating arm. I never paid too much attention before, I assumed the arm would have a hole for the spring like every other tractor I have has, but lo and behold, no hole! Looking at the pieces I think my old spring was just hooked around the rod that goes to the pedal, but it really doesnt look right..

Can anyone enlighten me?

It wasn't through the hole in the "head" of the cotter pin, was it, Mike?

Mike,

Part number 3582 is what your looking for, it is a spring anchor plate that bolts to the left side plate of the Uni-Drive. It is a metal tab that is about 1 x 1-1/2 inch in size. :hide:

See Mike ....no Tecumseh joke here! :D

If there wasn't a 5 ft drift of snow in front of the doors to the shed I could get a pic tonight but if you don't get an answer I will get to it tomorrow

Thanks John. I've actually been staring at pictures of your rear-end (!! :hide: ), but cant see where it hooks up.

Wait till it warms up though, there's no way I'm going out there to hook it up, until the temperature gets above about 10 degrees!

Thanks Duke. What size nail do I need? :hide:

Maybe I'll just improvise, and use a cotter pin instead...

And as usual TT had the answer hours ago. (Looks like he nailed it! :D , sorry couldnt resist)

Thanks for the help guys.

The cotter pin is still there, but I dont think the spring was hooked into it. Its been put in from the front end of the tractor (The eye facing forward). From the looks of it, mine was hooked around the rod where it makes the 90 degree bend.

But if I had lost it out in the yard, I'd bet you a dollar that I'd find it next time I drive across the grass - it'd be right there stuck in my tire. :hide:
