Anthony Wendover 124 #1 Posted December 21, 2008 Oh what a bad day today was with the horse.. First getting on the tractor my boot just caught the seat and put a hole in the cold plastic, that made me mad. Then snow blowing the wire to move the shoot came undone, couldn't get it to go back so i let it stay straight. Next thing i know i go to lift the blower and it wont lift.. The pin that holds it on is gone and the long boom is laying on the ground.. Reverse to the garage and go to throttle down and it won't. Lift hood and see throttle cable rubber broken in 2. Now tomorrow another foot. Thank god i have a walk behind. Just finished rehooking up the blower.. But i don't have a new throttle cable or throttle lever. And the local wheel horse place is closed on Sunday :hide:
MaineDad 87 #2 Posted December 21, 2008 Anthony, Most local auto parts stores sell small engine choke and throttle cables that may work for a temporary solution until you can get the oem one. We have all had days like that. Good luck...
Suburban 550 28 #3 Posted December 21, 2008 Sounds like one of those days when everything that could possibly go wrong, goes wrong. Better days are coming. Hope you get everything repaired before the next snow. :hide:

Jim_M 179 #6 Posted December 21, 2008 Anthony, Is the throttle cable itself broken or is it just the plastic covering over the cable? If the cable's not broken, you can thaw it with a hair dryer then spray WD40 on it at both ends and the area where the plastic covering is broken. It's common for throttle and choke cables to freeze up when blowing snow. Jim
boovuc 1,090 #7 Posted December 21, 2008 Wow. You beat me on my "bad blower day" this week. I got home late after 6 inches of snow with sleet and a rain on top. I fired the tractor up with my single stage blower infront and proceded to plug the discharge every other minute. It then took the better part of an hour and a half to dis-mount the blower, (couldn't get it off the front attachamatic), and mount my plow. I'm leaving the plow on from now on. This is the second snow I couldn't blow with that blower. Maybe if I lived in Colorado where the snow doesn't weigh 8 lbs per gallon/volume. Hope your horse is back up and running soon! TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #9 Posted December 21, 2008 Why don't you just put a zip tie on the throttle control linkage until you get a new cable? You're supposed to run at wide open throttle with a thrower/blower anyhow. (necessity IS the mother of invention -- and it sure would beat walking behind a snowblower!) Least today i got the blower back on the new throttle installed. Cant get the cotter pin on to hold the blower to the lift.. but i managed to do the driveway and walk way with out it falling out...Now i got to fight with it to get that sucker in... Craig Arndt 6 #13 Posted January 8, 2009 Those days usually occur for me on Mondays... not sure why but that is usually the day things break. Hope things turn around quick for you. I had one of those days last week. Finally backed the 416 in the garage, shut it down, turned off the kero heater and watched football. Figured it may as well snow until I couldn't see out my windows, I wasn't going to touch it until I settled down and thought it through. ....... ...... ........ ... :D
Rideawaysenior 25 #14 Posted January 11, 2009 Well, I think I'll be adding to this too now. Today I got up at 6am to do the drive before I went to work. Fired up the 312-H with the single stage blower. Half way through, the hair pin on the lift let go. No biggie, fixed it. After I finished the drive, I was heading to the shed. Half up the ramp, the darn thing stops moving. I look down and see a drive belt hanging in two pieces. :wtf: are just a few of the emotions I experienced with this. So, there she sits as I had to get ready for work. Oh, it's still snowing and the shed doors are open. Just so happens that the wind is blowing in the direction of the open doors. Anthony Wendover 124 #18 Posted January 13, 2009 Wow thats not a good day... Not long ago the tractor was creeping and I couldn't find out why it wouldn't move.. So I checked the drive belt.. it was on.. I was baffled then I looked down and my foot kicked it into low gear haha... Yesterday went out to blow snow and it wouldn't start.. no sounds nothing.. moved everything got out of the cab confused.. got back in decided to wiggle pto handle and boom she started.... that's the latest sillyness from me Hope you get it going again
stevasaurus 23,276 #19 Posted January 16, 2009 well, here's some False Logic looking for that good note to end on.... We already got our average of yearly snowfall...so I am done moving snow for the winter ....and there is still 2 1/2 months to go. I am glad to get it all out of the way this early.   The horse is glad to...time to play.
