well I got the one from the junk yard today.

the block numbers are the same, looks like I will have to swap over the cranks and get some new head gaskets and swap over the oil sumps.

I tried the link for the service manuals but it kept saying it could not find a match any other sites I could find a service manual for a Onan P216G motor.

I will post up pics of my tear down and rebuild when I am further along.

can I still find Onan oil filters or is there another brand that most use I know in the Toyota world everyone hates fram so is there a brand of oil filter I should stay away from.

thanks again

Simon

OK i am back I got it all put back together but now I am running into more problems.

when I turn the starter switch nothing not even the lights will turn on

can someone post up a pic of the wires hooked up to the rectifier also there is a white wire that comes out by the starter. from the schematic it looks to be hooked up to the starter relay but there is no contact plug for it on my tractors starter.

I also found the test switch broken and wrapped in tape the seat switch was part way disconnected as well.

also is there supposed to be a wire connected to the lower relay in this pic if so what wire connects to it .

I am thinking of running new wires to just the motor to eliminate all the safety stuff to see if the motor even runs.

the PO did a nice job messing this one up.

thanks for any insight.

The manual for that tractor has the wiring diagram on the back page. That will explain many of your wiring issues. The wiring looks like a pretty easy fix. My 520H has the 20hp. Onan but from the looks of it, these tractors are almost identical to each other. I can probably snap some pics of engine compartment and wiring for you to look at. It's kind of tight in there at the moment with the 2 stage snow thrower on it. I can only tilt the hood back so far. Goodluck with your rebuild there.

that would be great I know I am close but I need a visual of what I am missing I have one or two wires and cannot find where they go and it is getting to me I don't have any other tractor to go by and the yahoo who pulled it apart did a nice number on it.

the thing that sucks the most is I have to move out of my place by Saturday and had to move the tractor to a friends tonight but I stayed up late the last 2 nights putting the motor back together and repacking the front wheel bearings on my 86 toyota.

to anyone who owns a 416 tractor with a onan motor make sure to keep your valves adjusted this one was off on both cylinders, and remove carbon on the pistons and heads around every 200 to 300 hrs like recommended.

when I got it apart there was no space in between the piston and the head it was full of carbon and oil buildup and was most likely the reason why the piston blew apart.
