Correct Battery For 1076

Hey all.  Got my 1076 rewired this weekend, including new ignition switch, battery cables, and ignition wire.  Put in a new spark plug, and it fired right up.  However, I need a new battery and I can't find any reference to what size it should be.  The one in it is just a standard lawn mower unit.  I can see from the pictures and exploded views in the manual that the original was standard Ford-style posts and the box measures roughly 7" x 8 1/2".  Does anyone know what size I should be looking for?

A regular riding mower battery works just fine.  Just buy the highest 'cold cranking amps' you can get.    I use the NAPA battery (made by Deka) in my 1076, even though the battery box could take a bigger one.  I use the same battery to start my 12hp also.  The bigger battery costs 50% more, and it's hard to find. The bigger battery is also difficult to squeeze into the tight space.   I just put a 'spacer' in the box to keep the smaller battery from bouncing around.

go to napa and tell what it is for and they will give you the right one.

Thanks, Rusty.  I believe it is a BCI-26 from the box measurements (6 3/4" x 8 3/4").  I'll see what they say at Napa.

As it turns out, the best battery fit I could find for my 1076 is a Ford-style 26R.  It is plenty snug, to be sure.  Just fits under the starter mount, and fills the tray front to back.  It's about an inch short side to side, but looks really good.  I bought a cheapo from Walmart for 48$.  Only a 1 year warranty but the price was right, and 500+ cca really spins the ol' Kohler over.  Thanks for all the solid input!
