Horse Hunting 101

Recommended Posts

T-Mo

Since I was late to the party on that C-100, I have been scouring CL and here for a Wheel Horse, that is reasonably priced and close by.  I do like 73 12 HP listed here, but it's a fair distance to travel.  So here's what I found within a 3 hour radius:

A C-101 with a 12 HP Kohler for $350.  It's about 2 and half hour drive away.

A 416-8 just up the road for $300.  Runs, but will need some work.

A C-105, also runs, but it's a bit further away and I think overpriced at $550.

There are a few more that's either too much work or over priced, or too far away.  Of all these, I still like the 12 HP listed here, but that distance may persuade me to look closer to home.  Wish me luck on the hunt.

That C-85 looks like an easy project.  :handgestures-thumbsup:

I suggest you contact Steve in O'Fallon.  He was talking about selling some of what he has a couple of months ago.  He started a thread on the subject.   :handgestures-thumbupright:  Here's the link.

To be honest, that's the lowest on my list.  The price, the distance, plus I just don't like the plastic fender pan on those.  I would have to find a steel fender deck to replace that awful looking plastic one, and it's just too overpriced and far in my opinion.

I personally have become very fond of my 416-H. If I had only those pictured to choose from, I would have to pick the 416-8.

Just my 2 cent$ worth.

I like the 416 also  but you would need to get that seat in the ugly seat contest!

Personally if it was me, I would get the 416-8.

I think the 16 hp single lunger would be a fine engine!

+1 for 416-8

I'd spring for a 416-8 kohler for 300 even off I had to drive a couple hours.

416-8   I have 2 of them and love them both.  They are unstoppable.

I'm going this afternoon to look at the 416-8.  He does have a deck for it, but it needs blades.  I probably won't use the deck anyways, I have other mowers that I can use for mowing.
